Lilla julafton

Welcome to this years Christmas celebration: "Lilla Julafton"!

The theme of this year has been to try out more swedish concepts (like the crayfish party for example), and naturally- we want to keep going with the same theme and end the season strong!🌟

So, what is "lilla julafton"?

In Sweden, the 24th of december is the main day of celebration. For many, this is a busy day- we travel to visit familiy, cook, and celebrate- just as within many other cultures worldwide. This has resulted in the very common concept called "lilla julafton" (small christmas) where we have an extra christmas evening before the actual christmas. Many sweeds do this on the 23rd of december and some people also call it "uppesittarkväll" which translates to a "stay-up-all-night-evening". This evening is also typical for a lot of good food, christmas candy and play a lot of fun games together.

For many, this small christmas is the favourite evening of the season. There is less stress and prestige involved as it isn't officially christmas yet, and the focus is about having a really good time. This is also why we thought it would be a great concept for our Sebratec christmas celebrations together! A chance to celebrate together before the real season begins, filled with good company, drinks, games and fun.

What do we eat, do and wear on an evening like this? 🎄

Swedes usually prepare the ham in the oven before the big night (the 24th), which oftens results in a sneaky christmas-ham-sandwich on "vörtbröd" (homebaked bread with a lot of spices). To that we usually have a few pieces of "sill" (pickled herring in different tastes and sauces), a cold christmas beer/glas of wine, "glögg" (mulled wine), and lots of chocolate and christmas candy. Most people wear comfy clothes and a big hit is always the ugly christmas jumper. We will hit the same theme for our evening!

Another big part of this evening is games 🎲🎰🪄

One game in particular: "julklappsleken"(the christmas present-game). Obviously- we cannot have a proper lilla julafton at Sebratec without this game! Here is how the game usually is conducted and how we are going to play! (please do not skip this part as we know it is going to get competetitive 😂)

Julklappsleken:

(First explained as a concept, after how we will do it at Sebratec)

  • Everyone buys and bring one gift to the party, wrapped and ready after a set budget.
  • All presents are presented at a table in the middle of the room, eveyone playing seated in a ring around the table.
  • Round 1 begins:
    • One by one, each player will cast a dice. If you get 1 or 6, you may choose a present form the table. If you get 2, 3, 4 or 5, the dice is passed on to the next player.
    • The first round ends when all presents are gone (the dice will be passed on until everyone has reveived one present and the table is empty).
  • Round 2 begins:
    • One by one, each player will cast a dice once again. If you get a 1 or a 6, you may trade your own gift that you chose from the first round for another players gift that you think looks better.
    • Round two is set on a timer and ends when the time runs out (time is unknown to the players). When the time is up, everyone is left with a present that they might be happy with- or not so happy with (which is where things get competitive).
  • Everyone opens their presents.
  • Round 3 begins:
      • This is an optional round. IF a player is happy with their gift from round 2 and want to settle with that, they may exit the game. Everyone left will take place in what will be the final round.
      • Round 2 is repeated with the difference that you do not trade your gift, but choose one other players gift when throwing a 1 or a 6 AND keep your own, resulting in that some people will have several gifts when the game is over and some will be without.
      • Round 3 is also over when the time set on the timer runs out, in this case unknown to the players as well.

Sebratec edition:

  • Everyone buys and wrapps thier presents (same as above). Budget it set to 100kr per person and you may all upload your receipts in Fortnox for Sebratec to reimburse you. The same amount will be reimbursed for the partners (also to the employee's account) who wishes to join the game 🥰

What's the plan for the evening?

The doors will open for employees at 16.00. At 17.00 we will have a meeting to go though the year together. This means that we will cancel the monthly meetting on the day before (28/11). Tony will talk about the peaks of the year and plan for the upcoming year. At 18.00, our doors will open for partners and families, and we will get lilla julafton started! 🎁🎄

Take care and let's get the countdown started!🤩

Employee survey

Over the last year, we have made a lot of efforts to make this a better place to work. Now, it is time to evaluate how far we have come.

Me (Maja) and Tony have put together a survey which we believe will help up improving as employers. We are hoping to get a better understanding of your overall wellbeing, stress-levels, how you would rate your chances of development and our ways of communication (to mention a few).

The survey will take about 15 mins, so grab a coffee and make yourself comfortable. Naturally, the survey is 100% anonymous, and we will not be able to review the results until the majority of you has answered. You will be able to do the survey directly in Hailey from the 1st of november, and it closes on the 1/12.

This is your chance to have an affect on the company we are building together as the feedback will set the agenda for the rest of the year and 2025 💫

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give me or Tony a call.

All of our best,

/Maja & Tony
